Art and food, under one roof

WHAT DO you get when a gamut of suggestions and proposals is tossed around in a spacious interior that is open to inventing itself? In Naren's case, the proprietor of The Idea Shop, it was to create a café — Langford Bistro — one that is "flexible to meet the needs of its clients". What is striking about the newly-opened café is its ambience. The outdoor seating arrangement is fun and friendly while the interiors make for interesting conversation pieces. The floor and ceiling have graphics of psychedelic images and out of the ordinary photographs, which are a product of Mr. Naren's passion for unusual prints. He has also designed the funky and functional furniture at the café.

Mr. Naren, a designer by profession, explains that The Idea Shop was primarily an art gallery that showcased unique and affordable prints. He, along with his associate Varun, designed a certain type of coffee vending machine that received rave reviews and is currently being used all over the City. The same idea, he adds, is extended into establishing a coffee joint.

Langford Bistro, situated in a residential and a corporate area, aims at providing clients with a launch pad for all kinds of products — whether it is iced tea, nail polish, pens, shampoo, or jewellery, the walls are at the customers' disposal.

"The walls are a free creative space to advertise and showcase products. Everytime you walk in, the place could look different. The characteristic images on the wall lend ambience to the entire bistro. This way, the décor of the place is versatile and changes according to the products on display. One section is completely private and could even be used for private parties, conferences, or seminars. Along with the unique interior designing, we want to provide patrons with full- fledged meals in a coffee bar atmosphere," says Mr. Naren.

Coming to the menu, it offers customers snacks, drinks, and multicuisine delicacies. There is a section called Anytimers. It is most popular with the college crowd and includes fries, spring rolls, and so on. You can also treat yourself to a grill or a club sandwich, burgers, subs, pizzas, and spaghetti, adding to the Continental section in the menu.

Langford Bistro recently added Chinese and Indian to its fare. One can opt for the dragon roll with garlic sauce, chicken fried wontons, or golden fried prawns as appetisers.

The place also offers a choice of soups and rolls. The Koi-Thai or Malaysian noodles, is an interesting alternative to the standard chowmein. The danchen chicken (diced chicken in pepper sauce) and Hong Kong-style chicken, among others, stand apart from the typical Chinese fare. There are also a number of seafood and vegetarian options for those who are looking for a satisfying Chinese meal.

The Indian section offers a variety of tandoori items such as hariyali kabab, boti kabab, paneer tikka, dal makhni, fish and mutton, etc. All this can be washed down with a tall glass of fruit juice, iced tea, cold coffee, cold mocha or a good old cup of filter coffee.

For those with the proverbial sweet tooth, there are some sinful desserts to tuck into. Besides chocolate cake and apple pie, there are a number of ice creams and desserts on offer. There are desserts named such as Shocking Currant (a sundae with vanilla ice cream and black currant sauce), the Coffee Fudge (vanilla ice cream with Irish coffee sauce). The café also serves hot chocolate fudge.

An average meal for one person is priced at Rs. 60. With its innovative concept and ample assortment of eats, Langford Bistro is proving to be popular with college goers and corporates alike.

Langford Bistro can be contacted on 2072031.
