Summer sips

Some super coolers to douse the summer sizzle.


FEELING HOT, hot, hot? The summer mantra is to have as much liquid as possible to keep all those essential salts and electrolytes in balance.

While nothing compares to plain and simple water, here are some good-looking juices and cordials that are perfect coolants.

Summer delight

Ingredients

Pineapple juice: 3/4 cup

Mango juice: 1/4 cup
Lime juice: 2 tsps
Raspberry syrup: 1tbsp
Fresh cream: 3 tbsp
Crushed ice

Method

Chill the juices. Add limejuice, raspberry syrup, fresh cream and ice.

Blend in a mixer and serve chilled.


Watermelon cordial

Ingredients

Medium size watermelon one: 1

Cardamom powder: 1tsp
Juice of 2-3 lemons
Powdered sugar: to taste

Method

Cut the watermelon into big pieces. Remove seeds and extract the juice.

Add lemon juice to the watermelon juice.

Add sugar to taste. Mix well and chill. At the time of serving add the cardamom powder and mix well.

Serve chilled.

Mixed fruit cold drink

Ingredients

Black grapes: 10 - 12

Sweet lime (mosambi): 1
Pineapple: 1/4
Orange: 1
Sugar: 1cup
Water: 1 cup
Crushed ice

Method

Mix the sugar with water to form a thick syrup and keep aside. Extract the juice from all the fruits. Add to the sugar syrup. Add lots of ice. Mix well and serve chilled.

Cucumber tomato frost

Ingredients

Fresh tomato juice: 600 ml

Cucumber (grated):100 gms
Lime juice: 1tbsp
Sugar: 1 tsp
Black salt: tsp
Roasted jeera powder: a pinch
Black pepper: a pinch
Salt: to taste

Method

Blend all the ingredients in a mixer. Strain and serve chilled.

Kari ka pani

Ingredients

Raw mango: 1
Water: litre
Sugar: 3-4 tbsps
Salt: to taste
Black salt: tsp
Roasted jeera powder: tsp
Mint leaves: a few
Crushed ice

Method

Boil the raw mango until soft and tender. Remove the skin and mash the pulp.

Add water, sugar and the remaining spice.

Blend in a mixer. Add lots of ice. Serve chilled. Add fresh mint leaves at the time of serving.
