Pretty products in paper

THE SIPA Craft Link's exhibition-cum-sale of `Handmade Paper Stationery and Complimentaries' seems perfectly designed to get people back to the art of writing — chits, notes, invitations, letters, etc. And for ecologically sensitive people, the exhibition offers hand-made lamp shades, paper bins, office organisers, pencil cases, collapsible boxes as well as beautifully crafted paper bags for varied use.

Apart from being pretty the wood free paper products sale is an education in itself in alternative sustainable lifestyles.

Did you know that hand-made recycled paper is actually made by `cooking' jute cotton waste, then beaten, refined and bleached and finally hand painted?

Sipa's Craft Link presents products done on textures as varied as plain and mottled paper, silk lined, surface coated and metallic coated paper as well as laminated paper. Every product is beautifully finished and crafted, be it superfine writing paper, gift-wrapping paper or the attractive artefacts.

One can choose from a range of superfine writing paper pads with matching envelopes with the design underscoring Nature in motifs such as flowers, elephants, birds and so on. The office folders, telephone address books, files crafted out of mottled leather finished paper or dressed up with laminated pressed flowers are impressive.

The hanging lamp shades with touches of cane which come in geometric shapes, are particularly attractive and the variety of collapsible boxes are a designer's delight. Any of these can be picked up as eco-friendly gifts, including dried flowers embellished pencil boxes, photo frames, floral wall hangings, jewel boxes and waste paper bins in various shapes, colours and sizes. Also available are lovely greeting cards and a variety of paper bags, plain or dressed up, some with imaginative graphics.

The venue of the Exhibition: SIPA's Craft Link , Fair Trade Handicrafts , Shop 70, Kodambakkam High Road.
