Handcrafted elegance

THE ECO Cafe at Crafts and Weaves celebrates eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle options in its environment, decor and food. It has papier-mâché and terracotta masks on the walls, paper technology seating arrangements, paper table mats, coasters and trays, cane hanging lamps and food served on sterilised paper backed leaf ware — all handcrafted by the spastic children of Vidyasagar. Also available are home-made vegetarian puffs, cakes and tea snacks with juices and organic tea.

No wonder the ambience at Eco Cafe has a special warmth and value. The philosophy of the Cafe extends beyond its environs into the boutique as well. Crafts and Weaves specialises in hand-crafted eco-friendly artefacts with a thrust on paper craft, leaf ware as well as vegetable and naturally dyed products.

At a special `Tamil New Year Sale', which ends today, the outlet presents colourful crafts from many parts of the country. Pretty paper bags with chamki and zari work, dried flower candles and terracotta items make environmentally sustainable craft statements. Embroidery adds value to trays, cushions and pencil boxes while one can pick up unusual painted chairs and pebbles as well as a range of Tanjore paintings.

For the summer days ahead, Crafts and Weaves offers some cool clothes options such as Jodhpur block prints, Maheshwari yardage, Bagh vegetable dye prints from Gwalior as well as cotton kurtis. Embroidered Mangalgiris, Chettinadu cutwork, Sambhalpuri ikats and South cottons are part of the New Year sale which also showcases oxidised silver jewellery and Hyderbadi pearls bangles, bracelets, earrings, etc.

Crafts and Weaves is located at 11, 1st Main Road, CIT Colony, Mylapore.
