The hunt begins...

Intending to take the event - `Popstars 2' which showcases the best musical talents of the country - to a new level, Channel [V] plans to create an entirely new sound through the country's first ever mixed-band, whose members will be selected from different parts of India.

FOLLOWING THE phenomenal success of Popstars 2 last year, Channel [V] and Indiatimes with Coke, is all set for a nationwide hunt on musical talents once again.

Intending to take the event which showcases the best musical talents of the country to a new level, the channel plans to create an entirely new sound through the country's first ever mixed-band, whose singers will be chosen from different parts of India.

The selection will be done through auditions that will be conducted across Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigrah, Lucknow, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.

Conceptually, Popstars 2 will follow the same format as last year. A prominent jury comprising leading luminaries from the Indian music circuit will go around the country meeting aspiring musicians, who will have to undergo an exhaustive screening process. The ultimate result of this exercise would be a group of individual coming together to form a band that fulfils all the requirements for success. Viva - the highly acclaimed all girls band, was a result of this talent hunt in 2002.

Euphoria lead vocalist Palash Sen, one of the leading lights of Indipop Mehnaaz and Channel [V] VJ Purab are among the panel of judges this year.

The journey from audition to the final launch of the band is expected to take about five months from start to finish.

Television audience across the country can catch this real-life drama on Channel [V] Popstars 2. The show will allow viewers to share the joys, sorrows, anticipations and every other emotion that the contestants go through during the selection rounds.

Besides the new band that will be formed of youth icons in the making, the mega-search show will be a very good opportunity for the marketers - Coke, being the title sponsor, and Indiatimes, to get their brands create a strong presence in the minds of the audience.

The co-sponsors for the event are Henkel Spic (Fa) and Boots Piramal (Clearsil). Last year Popstars 2 saw the huge success of Viva as a band, with the success of the partners who sponsored the event.

Captivating audiences, both young and old, the band's first album titled Viva sold over half-a-million copies, - a landmark achievement for any band in India. On air, Channel [V] Popstars 2 was as huge a success as the on-ground event.

The show won over audiences, making Popstars the highest rated show on music television.

With the launch of Popstars 2, Channel [V] reiterates its commitment to promotion of Indian talent in the music industry.
