For a homely fare

The Taj Home serves a wide variety - `chaats', Chinese, North Indian and South Indian - in an ambience that is homely and healthy.



CHATPATI CHAT: One can eat `panipuris' endlessly here

BAPU STANDS tall and watches the spectacle from behind his glass-less lens.

People make a beeline with plates and wait for their turn at the choupaty chaat centre of Taj Home hotel (M.G. Road, Opp. Gandhi statue, Secunderabad).

Once the puffed panipuris and pav bhajis begin to roll out, there's no stopping... they just keep rolling and the business of Jeetu Mehta - the owner, keeps soaring.



HOME AFFAIR: `Thalis' are a great favourite.

"We see to it that hygiene and cleanliness is maintained to the highest degree. And that is just one reason why we have a swarming clientele," says Taj Home (Tel: 55323200) managing partner, Vijay Joshi.

And the level of cleanliness can easily be gauged, when he says, "We use mineral water for the khattai." No kidding!

Deviate from the regular Pav bhaji or panipuri and Bhel puri and try out the Jhal muri (Bengali special) or the Dabeli (Gujarati special) or the Patties pav (Delhi special) for a different spice and taste. All items are available for Rs 10.

"We have extended the choupaty chaat centre even inside our restaurant to cater to the huge crowd, particularly for those who like to sit and eat," adds Vijay. Enter the restaurant. Now that is a treasure trove of food, in itself. The four-page menu has in its folds a wide a span of North Indian, South Indian and Chinese delicacies, each better than the previous... in terms of taste as much as price.

A spacious, spic-n-span well-lit eatery, the Taj home restaurant serves pure vegetarian food in banana leaves. "We do not make tall claims about our own food. We leave it upon our clients. And their second visit and the third and so on, is a stamp by itself," the restaurant manager says modestly. Why not, good food is always infectious!



DINNER TIME: Digging into tasty wholesome food.

"The price is really affordable and the food nutritious and wholesome," says Preetam, a Satyamite and a regular here. While a North Indian thali, which contains two curries, veg. Biryani, Papad, salad, dal fry, curd, naan and rice, comes for Rs 30 only, a South Indian thali comes for Rs 20. "A family of four can have a satisfied dinner or lunch for Rs 100 in our place," says Vijay.

A 70 mm dosa here at Taj Home stretches from one corner of the table to another and can easily fill three hungry mouths. Amongst the snacks, Srikhand poori is a must-have in the whole range of idly and dosas.

Just as much is the assortment of sweets and desserts here, Litchie sundae with Irish coffee, being the best seller after Srikhand and Gulab Jamoon.

Food at Taj Home is entirely a homely affair. A five-star hotel maybe good in its own way, so is Taj Home. C.L. Gandhi vouches for that.
