Harmonious medley

The `Raaga' collection of saris and Indo-western wear is displayed at Marichika, Jubilee Hills till February 28.

PIN TUCKS & PRINTS: The Indo-Western collection.

AFTER THE festival of prints Marichika, the new fashion store in town, presents the Raaga Collection by Amita Ganeriwal, a Calcutta-based designer who specialises in fusion clothing. Her ensembles for summer include Indo-westerns and saris. The fabrics for the season are georgettes, pure crepes, chiffons and cottons.

The collection stands out for the colour grouping-a rust and black, magenta and orange, pink and mauve, and the embroidery featuring Parsi work, antique zardosi, mukkaish, Swarovski, silver tube, mirrors, kundan and coloured sequins. The collection is varied from a heavy crimson for the soirees to a lilac for a breakfast meet. A few tie-and-dye and leheriya lines can also be seen. The saris (Rs. 5,000-Rs.18,000) come with designer blouses - embroidered and complete with brocade edgings. Again, the combination is notable such as rust paired with grey. Check out the sheer black piece with copper sequins priced at Rs. 12,200 and a turquoise blue with antique zardosi replete with tissue border, for Rs. 17,500.

NINE-YARD SPELL: Embroidered saris with elaborate blouses.

The Indo-western range (Rs. 1,800 onwards) presents short kurtis, lacy strappys and mid lengths. Detailed salwars-printed, shaded and embroidered are paired with pin-tucked kurtas and two-toned dupattas. For the adventurous, the collection has asymmetric neck and hem lines but stands out for the cotton formals, which are striking. "Raaga is stocked in the various metros. For the twin cities, Amita and I meet and discuss the fashion trend out here - the colours and the requirements and thus the clothes is tailored for the city market," says sister Usha Badruka, Style `n' Stuff who looks after the Hyderabad market.

The Raaga collection will be on display at Marichika (11 a.m. - 8 p.m.) till February 28. For details contact Marichika (Tel: 23555837) opposite Trinetra Supermarket, road no. 36 Jubilee Hills) or Style `n' Stuff (Tel: 23608640, 23544761).
