Positive approach-the best way out
V.S. Bose
How to avoid depression and how it can be overcome? V.S. Bose, professor of Psychology, Andhra University, has a few suggestions.
Human mind is complex and complicated, it is the same mind that has created the microchips in computers and it is the same mind that can react to a slightest provocation.
The best way to stay away from depression is to keep oneself preoccupied. Do something to keep busy so that you may not have the time to brood and sulk over the happenings, as the old saying goes, "Idle mind is the devil's workshop".
Always try to be with people who encourage you and one who is ever ready to give a piece of good advice. Avoid people who always try to criticise and look down towards you.
A forward looking thought is the ideal way of thinking. Look forward and avoid conducting post mortem of the happening because the more you do the more you will be depressed.
Be planned in your approach so that you don't end up in a mess.
Always be on the positive side. Think positive, breathe positive and work positively. A negative thought can lead to depression. Nothing is impossible in this world. Everything can be achieved if one thinks positively.
A little bit of physical exercise and relaxation techniques like breathing exercises, yoga and meditation can work miracles on ones mind. This helps in gaining control over the mind, which is very vital in today's context.
Do not hesitate to consult a good professional psychologist or psychiatrist if need be.
