Hindustan Hamara, the Republic Day eve celebrations, at Aalankrita was a perfect mix of good food and music.

THE TRICOLOUR dominated Hindustan Hamara, the Republic Day eve celebrations at Aalankrita, the idyllic resort and convention centre.

The evening took off with an emotionally charged patriotic song by the group Sanskruthi. M.S. Srinivas, winner of Close Up Antakshari who regaled the audience with golden oldies from Bollywood.

Women were welcomed with gajra and rose water with the tricolour standing out in the ambience, the dress code as well as the food.

The 300 guests feasted on the lavish spread chosen from specialities from across the country.

While the Shorba Prajatanta, a tricolour tomato shorba with spinach and almond cream topping offered patriotic start to the proceedings, the Kebab-e-Tiranga was the perfect starter.

Foods from different regions were on offer. The Raajakiya Bhojan from the North was a combination of three curries served with pulao and an assortment of rotis.

Naman Thali offered select curries from the Nilgiris to Kanyakumari and was served with a choice of rice and poories.

Aepaar o Paar Aahar offered Bengali delicacies from char-chori to jhol with a plateful of steaming rice and Mughalai paratha. And from the West, there was the Phirangi's Platter with Kolhapuri Rasam, Bawaji's Favourites, Vindaloo and Peri-peri accompanied with Saana, Bhakri and rice.

The sweet side was represented with traditional sweets and vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was cooked, pre-portioned and served separately.

All in all, it was an evening to cherish with fine food and good music and an excellent ambience.
