Rahul Bose triumphs
IT WAS an unusually emotional Rahul Bose who informed us that his directorial debut "Everybody Says I'm Fine" had triumphed at the Palm Springs Festival. Said Rahul, "Can you believe it! My film is the first runner-up in category for the John Schlesinger Award for the best debut feature film."
While an Israeli film has won the top honour, "Everybody Says I'm Fine" bagged the first of the two honorary awards for best directorial debut. Bose's much talked-about directorial debut wangled the prestigious honour from among 41 films by first-time directors entered for the competition. On the telephone from Palm Springs 20 minutes after the award was announced, the jubilant director said, "It's beyond anything I had expected. The first person I called was my father in Kasauli." Incidentally, Aparna Sen's "Mr & Mrs Iyer" in which Rahul Bose stars, has been chosen as the sixth most popular film in the viewers' choice category at the Palm Springs festival, often regarded as the precursor to the Oscars.
