"When it comes to artistic skills in any field price doesn't matter for buyers. They look only for perfection and beauty"

THE PAINTING exhibition organised by the city Art Teachers Association at the Gandhi Museum drew a sizable crowd. An array of paintings of art teachers was on display at the exhibition.

Collages and patchworks were the cynosure of all eyes, though water and poster colour works outnumbered them.

"As risk is lesser in these styles and corrections can be made easily, many artists prefer to display their skills in these styles," the participants said.

The expo, sponsored by the culture Department of the State Government and Colman Colours, had 70 paintings of different kinds, water colour, poster colour, oil painting, collage and patchwork.

Siva and Arumugam, members of the association said, "this is only a trial. We want to gauge the taste of the city folks. Our next expo will be held in April or May and you can find the best of our mettle in that."

"The response is satisfactory. But awareness of art among people is vital for success of any expo of this kind", they opined.

The paintings were for sale with prices starting from Rs 200. An oilpainting of Cleopatra by E G Arumugam had fixed the highest price tag of Rs 20000. The artists themselves had worked out the prices for their creation.

"When it comes to artistic skills in any field price doesn't matter for buyers. They look only for perfection and beauty", said the duo.

A surprising feature was the absence of glass paintings in the exhibition.
