From the skies


WITH THE spirit of Christmas all around, the TV channels cannot be far behind in celebrating the birth of the Lord.

All the channels have various programmes lined up for the occasion. The message everywhere seems to be that of goodwill and cheer.

Christmas carols, Solomon's love songs, Jagjit Singh's ghazals and Jesudas' songs are some of the programmes on Kairali TV, to be aired on Christmas Eeve and December 25.

On Christmas morning, besides choir songs, viewers can treat themselves to Jagjit Singh ghazals.

On their breakfast show, Subhadinam', a tête-à-tête with a special guest, K. J. Joseph, DGP, will be aired. In `Sargasangeetham', K. J. Jesudas will render a number of old and new hits.

Memorable moments from the singer's life will also be shown along with the songs.

A special episode of the cookery show, `Magic Oven', will follow.

`Cheriya Sreeniyum, Valiya Lokavum' will have actor Sreenivasan recalling Christmas memories.

The telefilm, `December Mist', which won last year's award for the best telefilm, will be aired at 11-30 a.m.

Singer M. G. Sreekumar and director Rajasenan will host a programme of Christmas songs.

A mega show, `Christmas Dreams', combining elements of dance, music, humour and devotional songs, will be aired at 2-30 p.m.

Dr. Babu Paul's research on the Bible will be the subject of the programme, `Vedaratnakaram'. A conversation with the evergreen hero of Hindi films, Dev Anand, is another highlight of the day.

`Solomon's Love Songs', directed by N. P. Gopinath, promises to be a visual treat.

The mega hit movie, `Tenkasipattanam', starring Suresh Gopi, Samyukta Varma, Lal, Dileep and Kavya Madhavan, will be shown at 7-30 p.m.

A telefilm, `Commercial Break', will also be screened.

A variety of programmes will also be shown on Asianet and Asianet Global on December 24 and 25. From December 23 to January 1, hit films will be screened everyday at 9 a.m.


On December 25, `Ragamalika' will feature Christian devotional songs. On the morning show, `Suprabhatam', celebrities will greet the viewers on the occasion of Christmas.

Special cookery shows, Christmas carols, comedy skits, Christmas choir, Margamkali, fashion show and a special `Kalpana show', anchored by comedienne Kalpana, will be telecast.

Telefilms - `Divyatarakam', `Jesus' and `Snehatarakam' -- will be screened. Special programmes, `Thirujananam', Bethlehem', Bells of Christmas and Holy Birth', will also be shown.

Surya TV also has programmes lined up in the spirit of bonhomie. `Snehageethangal', at 5-30 a.m., will feature Christmas songs.

There will be a special edition of Surya's breakfast show, `Ponpulari'. Traditional Christmas carols will also be shown. `Pravaham' is a programme of Christmas songs hosted by the actress, Divya Unni. The film, `Sradha', starring Mohanlal, Shobhana and Abhirami, will be screened in the morning.

`Chingamasam Vannuchernal', a tête-à-tête with actress Jyotirmayi, will follow. The comedy telefilm, `Appavum Veenjum Pinne Njanum', will be shown at 12-30 p.m.

`Saphalyam', starring Suresh Gopi and Sangeetha, will be screened in the afternoon.

`Jingle Bells' is a chat show starring Jobi .

The talk show, `Onnanu Nammal', featuring director Kamal along with the actors of his forthcoming film, `Nammal', will be telecast at 5 p.m.

It will be followed by the telefilm, `Aazhathin Meethay Irul'. A review of the new movies released during Christmas will be shown in `Christmas Box Office'.

On Doordarshan, a film, `Roma 13:9', directed by Deepu Devadas, will be screened at 5 p.m. on Christmas day.
