Shine on shoe business...

IN AN environment where global giants are lining up shops with wares in a competitive price, a solely Indian business concern seems at times hard to be wheeled around. But, Daljit Singh, head of Tej International, a Rs. 65-crore turnover Indian shoe manufacturing company, says, "if you believe that quality is not just the last minute formality before delivery but something which must be ensured at every stage of the manufacturing process, then you are there in the reckoning".

Singh's words need to be endorsed by customers, but, starting business since 1961, the company, which sells shoes for both genders under the brand name TSF, today produces about 20 lakh pairs annually. Part of the production is exported to Europe, UK, West Asia, Australia and United States.

"Also, for the first time in India, our company introduced the concept of directly injected PSU soles with the help of German technologies," says Singh. With manufacturing units in Rajasthan and Bhiwadi, the company has shoes in the range of Comfort, Dress and Casual for men, women and kids ranging from a price tag of Rs. 895 to 15,95.

Singh's company employs around 3,000 personnel to "take care of each and every piece of leather".

Buoyed by the ascending rate of success, Singh today dreams of turning the company's turnover from Rs. 65 crore to 70 crore this fiscal year.

"Actually, it would be wrong to call it a dream. It would be a possibility in all cases". You appreciate his optimism, knowing well that where there is a need, supply is always in demand.
