Offering exotic coastal Andhra cuisine and a serene place for parties, `The Spicy Venue' is the newest hub in town.



SPACIOUS & SERENE: A gateway to good taste.

AWAY FROM the hustle and bustle of the city life, if you were looking for a place that specialises in exotic coastal Andhra cuisine, try eating at the restaurant in The Spicy Venue, the new hub in the twin cities. The place offers a venue option for family get togethers, kitty dos and corporate programmes too. Tucked in the serene Jubilee Hills and barely a month old, the place has takers already, be it the food aficionados or the corporate houses conducting their training sessions here. "We wanted to offer a venue that provides speciality cuisine and also the right option for organising parties at the three halls available here for get-togethers. There is a home theatre for children, apart from colourful swings, slippery slides and seesaws on the lawns. As for the cuisine, the spicy fare takes care of the Hyderabadi palate. And in this era of speciality restaurants, typical Andhra offering goes well with the current trend. But we also have a Chinese and Mughlai spread so that the people have a multi-cuisine option," says Sampath Tummala. A student of hotel management backed by a family business of popular Andhra eateries, he mixed business and cuisine at his venture.



TRADITIONAL SPREAD: For exotic coastal Andhra cuisine.

Spacious and serene is how one would describe `Vaishnavi', the restaurant here. With Chinese porcelain statuettes for good luck, a terracotta fountain from Dubai and handicrafts sourced from Lepakshi in a subtle arrangement, one finds the element of space rather pleasing. "What strikes you when you come here is the ambience — there is lots of place, apart from great food and service," says Satish, an ICFAI Business School student. And he loves the Natu kodi pulusu (country chicken curry). With rich gravy of cashew, poppy seeds and fresh coconut paste, it is one of the offerings from the traditional Andhra cuisine at the menu apart from the Chapa vepudu, Kodiguddu ulli iguru, Mamsam mulagakaya and Kodi iguru, stuffed brinjals and fried Bhendi.

The coastal cuisine derives the flavour from the method involved in preparing the spices. For instance, cinnamon is roasted on a tawa before it is grounded to provide the distinct tang to the dish. "There are spices, which are to be added at the beginning or towards the end while the dish is getting cooked," says Sampath.

Check the thali for lunch (11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.) that includes the black pepper rasam, with fried sabzi, sambhar, daal, rice, roti, papad and a delightful bowl of curd.

And towards the evening, the dinner (7 p.m. to 11 p.m.) dosa, idli and appam served with fresh coconut chutney are popular with the weary techies on their way back home.



FAMILY TIME: A venue option for get togethers.

Apart from an exhaustive coastal Andhra gourmet, the multi-cuisine offerings include cream of tomato soup, chicken corn soup, fried baby corn and pepper chicken and the kadai chicken, vegetable Manchuria and soft noodles.

The roti basket offers tandoori roti, naan, kulcha palak and more, while the rice bowl has plain steamed rice, vegetable pulao, kheema pulao and curd rice. And for the health conscious, there is mixed vegetable raitha and green salad.
