New destination store

`Odyssey' is the new one-stop leisure store in town that offers a wide option in books, stationery, toys and gifts.

TREASURE TROVE: A rich collection of books.

FROM SHELVES of books - fiction and non-fiction to stationery and gifting ideas and more - Odyssey -The Leisure Store stocks all these. One finds books for different age-groups here, from Montessori Read and Write, Little Encyclopaedia, Fairy tales, R.L. Stevenson's Treasure Island and Rudyard Kipling's Kim, to the classic Iliad by Homer. Books of authors Mario Puzo, Wilbur Smith, Jeffrey Archer, Robin Cook to the classics by Edgar Allan Poe, Dostoevsky, Leo Tolstoy and Mark Twain, best sellers such as Truth, Love and a little Malice by Khushwant Singh to Salman Rushdie's Step across the line, self improvement books - Be good to yourself or Desmond Morris' Understanding body language and books on general studies -TOEFL and GMAT, can be found too.

One can check out special interest books on travel (Hutchinson places of the world, Europe by train, Road Atlas of India), cookery (World encyclopaedia of wine, Catwalk cuisine), animals (The little brown encyclopaedia of animals, German shepherd or Birds from my window by Ranjit Lal) besides magazines on music, automobiles, photography, electronics, business and fitness. The `India' section has volumes on cultural heritage as well. Handy dictionaries and translation guides for English-Telugu, Hindi-English and foreign languages such as Japanese, Russian, German and Spanish, Multimedia CD ROMS and games, and comics such as Herge, Asterix and Tintin are some of the good buys here. As for office needs, one can choose from a wide range of business card holders, clear books and clip files. An interesting buy in the stationery segment is the write on-wipe off menu board - which makes a good kitchen organiser.

"Books are the main products. This apart, we store what a family would want - a stationery product for office use or toys like Hornby trains. Fragrances, health and beauty care products, gift-wrapping chocolates and other knick-knacks are also essential for destination stores," says T.S. Ashwin, director `Odyssey'. Thus for fragrances the options comprise Adidas, Police, Calvin Klein, Boucheron and Diesel, apart from Esprit watches and the 18 Carat gold Gili range of petite trinkets for gifting. The leather line of gifting ideas includes travel wallets, French purses, coin wallets and jewellery boxes.

JOURNALS GALORE: Special interest magazines on display.

While one can shop for the home from wind chimes bearing the symbolic yin and yang principles, Feng shui items and Ganesha in terracotta and glass, one can check out stuff for kids - bugs bunny bags, lunch boxes and complete party solution for birthdays with colourful paper plates, cups, napkins, balloons and masks available here.

Apart from a collection of stuffed toys that includes Garfield, Spiderman, giraffe, bunnies and teddies, one of the attractions at Odyssey is the exclusive range of Hornby trains circulating the meadows and grazing cattle.

"The USP is the range of products. We offer a variety that helps you choose your own fit, based on usage and price. Since 80 per cent of products are tagged MRP based, the consumer gets a good worth. It is a destination store for the family offering more than a shopping experience with emphasis on relationship building with customers such as events for kids in the evening including clay modelling and more," says Ashwin, the other offerings being service and a shopper-friendly ambience and display. There is a music section as well.

Third in the chain of stores, the outlet in the twin cities comes after the first and flagship store in Chennai (going strong since the past seven years), followed by the second in Varanasi. Here is one shopping experience to look forward to in case you need to buy some reading and office material.

Odyssey is located in Emerald House, Opposite Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri, Punjagutta and can be reached on 3414801 to 05.
