COLOURFUL CREATIONS: Saris to suit every pocket.
IT IS an India in itself. United. From the moustachioed Rathods and Rajputs to the burly-brawny Haryanvis and the brave Rani's of Jhansi, - the close affinity between them exudes wholesome integration in the place.
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu may be fighting a death row over Cauvery, but the troubled waters of hatred will never reach the handful, from the two states that live here. And the Hyderabadi hospitality that accommodates them is so endearing that they feel proud to be a part of this Mini India in Chenetha Bhawan, which remains unaffected by any tension in any part of the country.
Housing state handloom emporia from all over the country, Chenetha Bhawan in Nampally is the single largest outlet in the twin cities that retails exotic ensembles and fabrics, peculiar to the representative states.
Ethnic and authentic garments available off the shelves at round-the-year discounted price, make the Bhawan one of the most sought after place. Flocked by noted designers to local tourists to natives and even foreigners, the retail emporia are a hub for shoppers.
Presently the Bhawan houses Mrignayani (Madhya Pradesh), UPICA (Uttar Pradesh), APCO (Andhra Pradesh), Rajtex (Rajasthan), Co-optex (Tamil Nadu), Priyadarshini (Karnataka) and The Weaver (Haryana). Plans to accommodate state emporia from the east and north India are also in the pipeline.
The then chief minister K. Vijayabhaskara Reddy laid the foundation stone of the three-storied Chenetha Bhawan in the year 1993, with the intention to benefit weavers as well as to promote handloom products from different states. No wonder, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) initially set up its roots in the vicinity of the Bhawan, considering the market potential of traditional garments.
UNITED IN WEAVES: Handlooms from all over.
"Because of the festive season, we are offering discounts from 20 per cent to 70 per cent on most products," says the in-charge of the APCO outlet. While the Tamil Nadu emporium offers saris on instalments, Rajtex offers attractive discounts on readymade garments.
"We have to consider the interests of buyers also, who might not be able to afford very expensive items. Hence, we have one scheme where saris costing Rs 12,500 can be purchased for Rs. 9,000 while the rest of the money can be paid in easy instalments. This is just one of the myriad instalment schemes," says a Co-optex official.
From bedsheets to carpets to kurtas to bags and saris, Chenetha Bhawan offers a diversity of choice for buyers to select according to their own tastes.
The prime incentive being, exceptionally affordable prices coupled with incredible throughout-the-year discounts. And overall, a shopping experience in an ambience of exemplary national integration that is worth emulating. For a taste of India, check out the place.
