Playing host to foodies

The Host, located in Sindhi Colony, Prendarghast Road, offers varied vegetarian options in north Indian and Chinese fare.



TABLE FOR MANY: The restaurant can seat about 110 people.

TUCKED AWAY in a residential locality is a restaurant called `The Host'. Situated in Rudram Towers (1-8-229/1) Sindhi Colony, Prendarghast road (tel: 6336251/52), this restaurant, opened about two months ago, serves only vegetarian food (a reason for veggies to rejoice).

The restaurant, which has a fairly high ceiling and another tier, has a seating capacity of 110 and for the family dos one can use the first floor.

Decorated in a simple style, the restaurant is the initiative of Harish Motwani and Deepak Tyagi. "Cooks have been hired locally and from Delhi," says Chandan Motwani, the son of Harish Motwani who looks after the restaurant with his mother. Since the residents in the area are predominantly vegetarian, the restaurant caters to this populace.

The restaurant serves more or less the same menu (barring a few items) as the others in the city.



SUMPTUOUS SPREAD: The `roti' basket and kebab platter make a hearty meal.

It has become customary for most restaurants to serve Chinese fare. While scanning the menu card one may experience a feeling of déjà vu as the fare is mainly north Indian, tandoori and Chinese. For the South Indian there is a thali (serving a mixture of cuisines from the South Indian States like puri, rice, fried curry, poriyal, sambar, rasam, curd, papad, pickles and powders) available only during lunch. "This is for those office goers who want to have a quick meal during lunch," says Balaji, the restaurant manager. "The tandoori platter and roti basket are the specialities," says Balaji and could count as the USP of the restaurant.

An assortment of kebabs (veg. sheek kebab, malai paneer tikka, hariyali tikka, paneer tikka) and stuffed capsicum and rotis (naan, roti, kulcha, garlic naan, khastha roti and missi roti), these are ideal for a family. And veggies can note that eggs are not used in the naans.

The accompaniments are many - about 13 paneer dishes (includes achari paneer, kaju paneer, khoya paneer besides the regular ones), three dals and 17 vegetables (including a chef's special) and about five varieties of rice.

The Chinese dishes are mostly similar to what is usually available. There are a few ice creams, juices and lassis too. The pricing is fairly reasonable.

The restaurant also offers free home delivery (within the radius of three kilometres) and outdoor catering for five to fifty people.

The restaurant has a special package with an array of dishes to choose from (includes Indian sweets like gulab jamun, jilebi, gajar ka halwa, angoor rasmalai, chum chum).

The next time you are in the whereabouts of Prendarghast road and want to grab a bite check out The Host which is open between 12.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. onwards in the evening.
