Your feet in safe hands

WHEN DARA Singh endorsed Relaxo slippers, people grew curious, `Does he actually wear it or is it just for an advertisement?' But the sale of Relaxo slippers undoubtedly went up. More recently, teenage heartthrob, pop star Britney Spears attracted attention when she made her first appearance in international Sketchers Sports print advertisements. There have been actors Rob Lowe and Matt Dillion and basketball star Rick Fox too who endorsed Skechers footwear.

It was a great help for the footwear company, which is enumerated among top 10 footwear in 2002 as researched by Business Week and has also been `the second largest selling footwear in the World.'

What's so special about it?

`It caters to fashion and not technology that many footwear companies boast of. Ours is just a different `lifestyle fashion footwear' that caters to the age group of 18 to 35 and appeals to trend-savvy men, women and children,' claims an official of Sketchers.

To substantiate its point, they open before you its entire range of footwear. Just sample this: Skechers Sport, Skechers USA, Skechers Kids lines and now it has recently `Somethin' Else that is meant for `trend savvy' juniors as they call it. Skechers by Michelle K{+T}{+M} - the designer footwear for women in the age group of 18 to 35, then there is Skechers Active— the casual sneakers for women and Skechers Comfort for young men among newly inducted `Gators Maze' - a lace up jogger for men, women and kids. "It has a moulded side brace with a reinforced rubber toe for durability and a traction rubber out sole for keeping one on move without getting tired," says a Skechers representative.

This US based company claims to have flourishing sales in over 110 countries. In India it is introduced by Planet Sports Private Limited and "is targeted at upper-middle income urban dweller hence and priced between Rs 2,999 and 4,599," informs the representative. These are available at all Planet Sports Outlets.
