Nephew time in Bollywood
|
Sameer Malhotra may not be a well-known name in the film-world. However, this nephew of Shekar Kapur, is confident that his moment will arrive soon....

SAMEER MALHOTRA is a happy go lucky type of guy, who has had good grooming and like most of members of his peers comes from a film background. Now seen in the ongoing soap opera, "Aa Gale Lag Ja", which is being beamed on Zee TV, he made his debut in Bollywood in Feroz Khan's "Prem Aggan", which flopped at the box office. So it is back to the grindstone for this young actor.
Sameer's father has been a distributor of Hindi films like "Sholay", "Qurbani" and "Andaz". His mother got to show her creative talents in "Elizabeth" and "Shakespeare in Love". He was born and brought up in the garden city. Coming from a Punjabi background, he says, "From inside I am like a typical South Indian person. This includes not just in eating habits but also mental framework. While my personality is like the average robust Punjabi fellow."
One might get the impression that here is a budding actor, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth but it is not true. Sameer is diligent when it comes to work and though he can boast of impressive pedigree -- he is nephew of director Shekhar Kapur -- he believes in his own accomplishments. He says, "For five years I was modelling for big companies like Maruti Esteem. I must have done about 300 ramp shows. In this serial, I am playing the character of Dr Rahul Gupta, who doesn't know that the girl he loves is already married to Mamik. The shooting has taken place in Shimla and Panchguni."
On new films, Sameer says, "I am coming in `Bas Yuhi', which is an MTV production and is directed by Raja Menon."
Why doesn't he dabble in South Indian flicks as he was brought up in Karnataka? "Little bit of Kannad won't help me if I have to fulfil my aspiration as an actor."
Sameer says, "For `Prem Aggan' I learnt taekwondo for one year with Fardeen Khan but the film bombed." As luck would have it he worked as assistant director with his uncle, Shekhar Kapoor for eight films like "Prem", "Joshilay", "Time Machine" and "Barsaat" but only two of them were able to see the light of day.
Sameer also wants to make a mark as a writer. Well, he wants to do many things but right now he is giving priority to his histrionic talents on the small screen.
