'Seamingly' right

As the winter approaches, seams represent high points in design. With a potential to upgrade your wardrobe overnight, seams have the potential of adding contour - vertical or horizontal - and creating a simple-yet-sophisticated look.

Tufts of fabric can be pinched into seams to create a grand sweep this season.

THE HISTORY of fashion mirrors time stipulated advancements. From the Egyptian `Schenti' of 3000 B.C. to the stylish Armani suit of today, clothes reflect that fashion has progressed at a steady pace and graduated into a means of self-expression.

Modern-day living has developed a new attitude in clothing. We are conditioned to purchase low-cost garments with an ephemeral life span.

This is where the scope of "make-do-wear" comes up. A scope of doing something `new' to give a new look to the old wardrobe.

As the winter approaches, seams represent high points in design. Seams in lurex can be seen at the apex of the fashion canopy.

This effect can be given to any piece of clothing with customised placement (in the form of desired motif, top stitching) or overall spill.

It is as appealing on casual denim and cotton as on a dressy, refined silk.

Seams have the potential of adding contour - vertical or horizontal. Seams with varied stitch lengths can be employed to create a look which is simple but oh!-so-sophisticated.

The effect achieved by seams interspersed with beads and sequins is topping the style charts.

Seams help a grand sweep through a season of textures. This goes to say that pinches or tufts of fabric can be held in place with the aid of a seam.

Fabric held in place with the aid of a seam to create a three dimensional effect.

The advantage being that you could create your own fabric face in the desired fabric without being forced to buy the synthetic textures available in the market.

Colour blocking is in. Employing different coloured seams in different panels could effortlessly create mock panels. Teaming this effect with subtle embroidery gives you just what you need this season.

Seams could be corded to achieve a three-dimensional effect in clothing. This season, corded seams, tucks and pleats in columnar fashion (vertical or horizontal) talk of an uncluttered approach to design.

Easy and instant, watchwords of the 21st century pervade most aspects of daily life including the world of clothing. Seams represent quick user-friendly ideas with a potential to upgrade your wardrobe overnight.

It is a truism that fashion and fun are partners. So, have fun in the `seamingly' right way!
