Get your slice of American pie

America, the land of opportunities, is enticing every alternate Indian to try his or her luck to make it big. But a few may be aware of the fact that Uncle Sam's land is a combination of myriad cultures and the American life style and habits have been largely influenced by the Europeans'. If we further delve into their past and especially look for the native connection, we would find a lot of similarities with our own culture and habits. It can largely be seen at a glance in the original American cuisines.

To take us through the journey of discovery over a delectable spread of delicacies, Nambi Arooran, the executive chef of Hotel Grand Bay, has yet another food fiesta - American Pie ready for us.

Taking a cue from the success of the Italian food fest, Nambi has a wide variety of American cuisines with a true ethnic taste and flavour like hushpuppies, king crab chowder, New Mexico onion pie, prawn jambalaya, Kentucky fried chicken, cajun fish, creole vegetable in aubergine shell, chicken gumbos and number of pies to add to many other dishes.

"Cajun and creole, the ethnic and the original style of American cuisines, resemble a lot like our Indian stuff and we have tried to bring this into focus in addition to the general fast foods like pizzas and burgers. Most importantly, the famous pies are there which can be had in the main course or as a dessert," says the chef.

It is time for the gastronomes of the city to pick their dream share of the American pie. The festival is on at the Residency till September 22.
