The closest to home food

A meal is now a phone call away. `Your Kitchen', the latest venture of Visu Group of Companies, promises tasty food with the flavour of home at affordable rates at its chain of takeaways.

FORGOTTEN TASTES: C.C. Reddy

`YOUR KITCHEN - As good as mom's' is the catchline of the latest venture of the Visu Group of Companies. Food, and important home flavours, are ambrosia for the stressed-out people of today. Nothing could be a better catchphrase than `as good as mom's'. `Your Kitchen' promises fare as close to home food.

Traditional delicacies and long-forgotten recipes will be cooked in a central kitchen and served in the outlets (primarily a takeaway but which can seat a few with the facility of home delivery and online order to be introduced shortly), a few of which will be opened today.

The man behind this venture is Chavva Chandrasekhara (C.C.) Reddy, the founder of the Visu Group of companies.

This extensively-travelled, successful businessman decided to diversify into food - particularly home food as he found that there are certain kinds of dishes - particularly regional dishes which are lost in the maze of urbanisation.

"In our younger days we used to have healthy and wholesome food - like ragi mudda and ambali (a health drink made by using the water of leftover rice soaked overnight mixed with fresh buttermilk and onions). Today the food-pattern is different," he reminisces.

HIGH ON HYGIENE: Delicacies are cooked in a central kitchen.

So C.C. Reddy wants not just to rekindle that nostalgia but bring it alive in the form of food.

C.C. Reddy's target group is the middle class and his attempt is to provide hygienic, tasty and authentic food at reasonable rates.

For instance, a plate of idli, chutney and sambar will cost Rs. 6, a ragi mudda with chutney and pappu Rs. 12, ragi roti/jonna roti with pappu and chutney Rs. 12. Reddy is not compromising on hygiene.

Every vessel used for cooking, crockery and cutlery will be sterilised thoroughly before use at the central kitchen and other outlets. Purified water will be used for cooking.

BECKONING SIGN: For mom's cooking

A central kitchen has been established at Jubilee Hills where food will be cooked and transported to the outlets.

Hygiene will be ensured during transportation (food will be covered) and food will be preserved at required temperatures at the outlets.

"The sanctity of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food will be maintained. There will be no mixture respecting the sentiments of people," maintains C.C. Reddy.

A fleet of vehicles and delivery boys will ensure the delivery of food at home initially within the radius of 2-3 kilometres.

Moving on to food, C.C. Reddy says it will be less greasy. A range of items for breakfast (idli, dosa, upma, pongal, uttapam, ambali), lunch and dinner (there will be common dishes like natu kodi pulusu, paaya, chaapala pulusu, ulava charu to name a few) besides snacks (the snack list is pretty exhaustive with Shanghai rolls, spring rolls, and so on and the price range is between Rs. 10 and Rs. 25) will be available.

Early risers can rejoice as breakfast items will be served from 6 a.m. onwards. Food will not be packed in plastic so the environment-conscious need not worry.

Only the outlet at Secunderabad will be like a full-fledged restaurant. Initially about eight outlets will be opened and `Your Kitchen' will expand to other places in the months to come. Other projects on the anvil are online ordering system, catering to offices and outdoor catering for any occasion

"We are planning a concept yaadon ki raat where people can decide on themes. The ambience will be recreated according to the theme. We will provide music according to the people's interest - could even be a live performance. We will be ready to organise even costume parties," says C.C. Reddy.

When you return exhausted from work or want to take a break from cooking you know what to do and where to go. Although there is nothing like home food one can experience `Your Kitchen'.
