Spreading cheer for a price...

The concept of sending cards and gifts to someone close through a company is fast catching up in Delhi. RANA A. SIDDIQUI finds that a few outlets have chosen to bring a smile on people's face for a price... .

THE MONTHS of September till March are the most happening period of the year, for it ushers in the annual marriage season, numerous anniversaries and other festive occasions in India. And that is why probably, all gift corners across Delhi seem to have suddenly woken up to the desired need of gifting people on these special days. Though most of the gift galleries do not fall within the average man's pocket, yet there are some options available for everyone.

Take for instance, d'mart Exclusif - a premium life-style boutique of Dolphin Group International at Green Park. It offers silver products of International brands from Spain, Italy, Germany, France, UK, USA and other European countries.

From Spain come sculptures of copper inlaid with gold or silver of `Damascene Art' - the delicate craftsmanship dating back to 600 B.C - d'Mart exclusif imports them from Credan, the Spanish company that has kept this art alive. From Carnabi Ormulu Collection, Germany, arrives handcrafted bowl in porcelain and brass, intricately carved and designed. There are also timepieces statuettes, vases, jewellery boxes and photo frames from Linea Agrgenti, Ottaviani, Marcello Georgio and Salvucci, the famed brands from Italy. All these items range from Rs. 5,000 to 3,50,00. This September and d'Mart plans the launch of `corporate gifts' ranging from Rs. 1,000 onwards. It may be mentioned that the lifestyle boutique is owned by M K Rao - the winner of Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award, 1991, Shiromani Award, 1992 and Indira Gandhi Award 1994 for being be only Indian to bring in collectors' items into the country.

For those who cannot afford the great prices, there are other options. They can do by sending flowers and cards without even remembering the dates! Sai Dreamz Concierge Services at New Rajnder Nagar comes to the rescue of people, who are bad at memorising dates of important occasions, miss them and regret later. It remembers the dates and sends them flowers and Archies, Helpage cards for a price. They give you three options of `Forget me not' services to keep in touch with people and gift them on your behalf. A one-time membership payment per year ranging from Rs. 550 to 175 entitles you to their `Missive' `Ornate' and `Recall' services which can be renewed after the date of expiry of membership.

The `Missive' option sends personalised cards to the people of your choice, while `Ornate' delivers flowers at chosen places. `Recall' reminds you the important dates over telephone — 50 to 100 times a year, two days in advance.

"Normally we take two telephone numbers from the person who wants to be reminded of important dates. If the person is unavailable, we keep trying till the expiry date. Even on the expiry date, we call him to tell that he missed an important date," says Nitin Monga of Sai Dreamz. He says, he has taken this concept of sending flowers, cards and reminders from America. "Hence with my wife Barkha, the proprietor of the company, we initiated this service only this June and the response has been overwhelming", he adds.

For the choice of cards, Sai Dreamz gives catalogue of cards with membership form.

Extending the cards matter, there is another novelty attached to it by `Great Names' at Niti Bagh, Delhi. It personalises the greetings cards by engraving beautifully on the framed background, the receiver's first name, its origin, meaning and significance, adding a special message addressed to him. Popular abroad, this concept in India is initiated by duo sisters, Milloni and Minjal Jhaveri.
