The Italian connection

WelcomHotel Grand BAY is sweeping Vizagites of their feet in true Italian style. Their ongoing Italian food festival is the talk of the town.

Chef Sunil Srivastava who was trained by master chef Bill Marchetti is busy dishing out pastas, pizzas and spaghettis to tickle the taste buds of the gourmets every evening.

He claims that pasta, the most renowned Italian delicacy, has a long historic tradition. The Indian names of sev or seviyan for vermicelli have evolved from `Sevika' an early name for pasta. Even Marco Polo in his travelogue recorded that the Chinese were making long noodles an equivalent to pasta. The festival is being held at the hotel's multi cuisine restaurant, Residency, and is on a-la-carte basis. Though the Italian names can be quite a tongue twister like bruschetta, margherita, arrabbiata at the end you will surely be found licking your fork and spoon voraciously.

The Italians who strongly believe in aesthetics also like to make their food look good and that is the reason their preparations are generally topped with a lot of green vegetables, fresh tomatoes, cheese and variety of sauces," says Sunil.

The chef has also taken care of the diehard vegetarians with a wide variety of dishes like bruschetta al pomodorie mozzarella, ligure pizzas and loads of great deserts.

All the sauces and pasta raw materials have been imported specially from Italy to lend authenticity to the delicacies.

It is the ideal place to take your loved ones and experience the beauty of Milan, Naples and Marseilles in candle light under one roof.

The festival will be on till 11th of this month.
