Smooth drive

Installation of an auto-clutch ensures effortless and stress-free driving.

YOU HAVE a harrowing time driving through chaotic traffic and congested areas constantly pressing the clutch and changing gears for hours that you are exhausted by the end of the day.

And women who are constantly adjusting their saris or removing their high-heeled footwear in order to release the clutch or press the brake find the whole procedure cumbersome?

You have always dreamt of gearless vehicles which fluidly zoom past like the kinds seen abroad and in movies? Such vehicles do exist in the country but restricted to certain models and are highly-priced.

Now there seems to be a solution for all these problems - the auto clutch.

With the use of this auto clutch, firstly one can dump the clutch pedal. Under this system the knob on the gear-shift shaft is to be pressed to change gears.

No need to press the brake or release the clutch to bring the vehicle to a stand still. Don't be horrified or wonder how the vehicle will move.

It will move at first gear with the pressing of the accelerator. All one has to do to stop it is press the brake. The auto clutch, a parallel system to the original clutch, is controlled by a computer.

This computer gets all the inputs from the vehicle self sensors like the speed of the vehicle, if the brake has been applied, if the vehicle is in forward or backward gear and if the button on the gear shaft has been operated.

The computer analyses all these inputs and then operates the clutch with the help of the clutch actuator unit.

Due to the computer control the wear and tear of the clutch is reduced. This device is now manufactured in India.

Those who are so used to the clutch will absent-mindedly press it. But they need not worry - it does not hinder or hamper the functioning of the auto clutch.

In fact both the clutch systems are parallel and are interchangeable. The question of what to do with the left leg will linger as the leg will be almost stationary.

No modifications are required in the vehicle for installation of this device. It can be installed in any vehicle up to an LCV.

If you are wondering about fuel consumption then your doubts can be put to rest as the auto-clutch does not increase the intake of fuel. The maintenance cost is also reduced.

More importantly, the stress on the driver is reduced. This may seem ideal to women and physically challenged people as there is less of strain involved.

The whole device costs about Rs. 35,000. The new device certainly seems advantageous but those with wary minds may have apprehensions about it - whether it will stand the test of time. One has to check out its efficacy in the long run.
