Dining on cloud nine

Seventh Heaven in the busy Punjagutta area serves a wide range of cuisine in an interesting ambience.

IF YOU have ever nursed secret ambitions to dine like a Greek shipping tycoon at lofty heights with a scenic view of the city, Seventh Heaven (6668833/6668822) in Punjagutta is the place for you. And hey, even if your tastes are not so celluloid driven, you could visit the restaurant and indulge your taste buds.

Started three years ago in Venkat Plaza in the super busy Punjagutta area, the restaurant takes its name from the floor it is on (yeah, it is on the seventh floor) and to describe the dining experience. The wood and coloured glass décor lends a warm, homely ambience. And of course there is the see-through kitchen.

The pride of the restaurant is the balcony where you could sit on benches (some even stand on them) and savour the wonderful food and a rolling panoramic view of the city.

There is the thrill of locating the Birla temple or the Buddha on Tank Bund and then trying to figure out the location of your own personal landmarks.

Makes for great conversation too - you could impress everyone with your superb sense of direction as you authoritatively point out Sangeet theatre and Mehdipatnam.

Seventh Heaven serves a wide range of cuisines. Starters must haves, according to manager M. Bhasker, include Baby Corn Salt `n' Pepper and Chepa Vepudu, a traditional Andhra preparation where boneless chunks of fish are fried on a tava. In the tandoor section you could check out the Kalmi Kebab. As far as Chinese goes, Garlic Chicken, Fish in Hot and Sour Sauce and Chilly Garlic Noodles would make a satisfactory bite.

In south Indian cuisine, do not under any circumstances miss out on the Vegetable Chettinadu or the Appam served with vegetable or meat stew.

Other popular dishes include Nalla Miriyalu Kodi (chicken cooked with black pepper and curry leaves) and Natu Kodi Pulusu (country chicken cooked in tamarind pulp and onion paste tempered with mustard seeds and curry leaves) among others.

Vegetarians can rejoice in a wide range in the North Indian menu from Stuffed Tomato Masala to all time favourite Paneer Butter Masala.

On the sweet side, with the restaurant having an exclusive Baskin Robbins outlet, you could check out the range or try out some of the desserts on the menu. While according to Bhasker, the Phirni is popular, the Baked Alaska could be checked out.

One of the specialities of the restaurant in the Kozy Kohinoor where the biryani is cooked in an earthen pot. Open from 11 am to 11 pm, the restaurant can comfortably seat 150 people. The Rooftop with a capacity for 35 people is ideal for a private party. The restaurant provides a separate music system and does not charge for the venue.

On the wine list all regular cocktails and mocktails are available including exotic ones like the Chilli Bacardi.

Five to six items are introduced on the weekends on a trial basis and included in the menu if it is a success. So there is not much chance of getting bored!

Good food and a wonderful ambience provide the perfect seasoning for an enjoyable evening with friends and family. So get on that lift and indulge in a soaring experience.
