Calling midnight snackers

Riviera, the multi-cuisine restaurant in Sangeet premises, recently started the midnight buffet, which is a boon for all night show addicts.

PICTURE THIS. You had a teeny-weeny bite before the night show at Sangeet and are now feeling peckish and don't really feel up to facing the left over khichdi in cooker. Do not worry, just turn left and indulge in the midnight buffet at Riviera (7713366).

The multi-cuisine restaurant has recently-introduced a midnight buffet from 11 pm to 1 am. At just Rs 99, you get noodles with a Chinese gravy based item, vegetable biryani with chicken curry, ice cream and a sweet.

While the buffet is a new thing, the restaurant has been there since November `96 and is well known for its sizzlers. The Crabmeat walnut sauce on sizzler (Rs 158) and Lamb Pepper Steak on Sizzler (Rs 138) are hot favourites, according to manager Venu Gopal B.

"We have adapted the recipes. For instance, crab is traditionally served with the shell and there is a particular spoon with which one would scoop it out. But we take out the meat and make a kind of patty."

The crabs and prawns are "fresh. That is the reason why we do not use tiger prawns as we cannot always get fresh ones." Vegetarians should check out the Choux fleur Augratin (cauliflower florets cooked in cream and gratinated), Mixed Vegetable Platter (Assorted stuffed vegetables and nuggets cooked in brown sauce and served on a sizzling plate) or Pimento Farcis (capsicum cooked and stuffed with garlic rice and served on a bed of pepper sauce accompanied with garlic rice timbale). For Rs. 110, it is definitely value for money.

While Riviera is known for its continental cuisine, there are a whole range of menus you could choose from - Chinese to tandoor and of course amchi Hyderabadi. "In a family or a group there would be people favouring different tastes and we at Riviera try and see that nobody is disappointed."

This attitude has seen Riviera win a spate of awards including the best restaurant in Southern region award by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in 1999.

The décor is pleasant with the water curtain adding a touch of mystery and magic. There is a separate parking space so one need not worry about getting caught in a blockbuster traffic snarl up either.

Shakhahari Pasand for Rs 135 offers a combination of Kaju Palak, Sheekh kebab, Vegetable Sheekh, Tandoori Salad two Roomali rotis, dal, Pudina Chutney, Jeera Rice, a soft drink and a fruit salad while Murgh Mehfil for Rs 178 gives an assortment of Chicken tikkas and kebabs served with a salad, roti, dal, chutney, a soft drink and fruit salad.

The desserts to explore include the absolutely divine Orange Crème Caramel (caramel custard with orange crush and rind), Fruit Brochettes (fresh fruits skewered and served with honey and grain sugar) or Zauq-e-Shahi (gulab jamoons in rabri).

So you have just watched Hum Raaz and are feeling peckish? Just turn left and indulge.
