Crafting your emotions
Vaidehi with her home -crafted collections.
A touch of class with a unique presentation? That's what you get at Darpan - the one-stop shop for handcrafted, exquisite gifts that will take your breath away. The collection includes dried flower arrangements and bouquets and garlands, designer greeting cards for any occasion, perfumed candles and just about anything you may fancy and want designed.
Says C. Vaidehi, the woman who personally crafts these creations, "You will never find two of a kind at Darpan. I never copy designs; I just let my imagination and creativity run riot and my hands do the rest."
It is a matter of pride that one who is suffering from a life-threatening ailment, spends her time in fabricating these beautiful gifts to take her mind off the trials and tribulations that her body puts her through. Assisting Vaidehi in her venture is her daughter, Prasanna, who takes time off her studies to help mother in the "finishing touches", and son, Teja, who is more of a critic offering his own suggestions on arrangements. Vaidehi is also backed in her venture by her all-supportive husband, Krishna Rao, who encourages her by all means.
Her interest in handicrafts started in her childhood and she has been coming out with different types of creative expressions ever since.
Born in Palakol in West Godavari district, she came to Vizag in 1973 after marriage. She is a science graduate and decided to give her time to expressing her inner feelings, and the idea of Darpan came from a craving of her inner self to get recognition from the outside world. She started making designer greeting cards six years ago and launched this unique gift outlet in October 2000. Why the name `Darpan'? It was coined by her as she wanted it to reflect "love and affection". The commercial aspects of the business is secondary to her, and one can pick up gifts at very affordable rates from this home-operated business. Her major raw materials are dried flowers and grass which come from both imported and indigenous sources.
Vaidehi's forte is making ordinary items look extraordinary. Why, she even dresses up the curriculum vitae of people to infuse that breath of fresh air into an otherwise business like document!
Some of her niche creations include floating rangolis in any shape desired by the client, nib paintings, interior decoration and landscaping with dried flower arrangements and packaged wedding gifts.
Darpan is located at 11-2-15/1, Daspalla Hills, opposite Bethany Junior School. You could call them at 562088, e-mail at pcolluru@yahoo.co.in or visit their website sridarpan.netfirms.com.
