Computer Granny
YOU link IT with youth, don't you? That link is not all that strong, mind you. Listen to what a septuagenarian feels. Meet MALATI. M. NAIR
"The very word IT created a sense of fear and awe in me. I thought it was beyond the grasp of people of my age. Computers were only for youngsters and the bright and smart kids.
"Being in a family where all others had gone into sscomputers, my mode of entertainment was the idiot box and the phone."
"The magic world of computers was not for me so I thought and believed, till one day my son suggested that I take some basic lessons in it. I did not take him seriously even though he repeated the idea often with a big smile on his face.
"Computer programs on TV and computer ads I blissfully ignored, till one day I heard a voice on T.V. saying that not to be familiar with computers was like being illiterate.
"All my excuses, my age, lack of conveyance, lack of time, etc. etc. just vanished and I made the big 2002 New Year resolution. - I will give it a try. My grandchildren promptly named me Computer Granny. Controlling my aches and pain, I landed at the computer centre.
"The faculty welcomed me with open arms; a granny studying in their institute is a boost for them, isn't it?"
"So here I am merrily typing e-mails and sending greeting cards to my near and dear ones. Whew, what a new life!"
