Tantalising Thai fest

Benjarong, on TTK Road, has come up with an array of delicacies to celebrate the Thai New Year. The food festival is on till April 28.

IF YOU love food, and specially the lingering taste of Thai cuisine, then this one is for you. To coincide with Songkran, the Thai New Year, Benjarong on TTK Road, has organised a Thai food festival, till April 28.

The word Songkran, derived from Sanskrit, means "to pass, to move". It marks the period (in the solar calendar) when the Sun has passed through the 12 zodiac signs. The 13th day of April is Maha Songkran Day when the Sun shifts from Pieces to Aries, and is perpendicular to the Earth. Hence day and night are equally long.

Celebrated over three days, Songkran is a time when families get together and have fun.

At the Benjarong festival, Thai artistes have been specially flown in to add that authentic touch. Apinya Ratchakue, Pannuch Keskaocharoen and Kritdakoran Dasatep will play Kim, a traditional instrument, with others performing traditional dances.

Chef Regi Mathew has come up with an exotic menu comprising Goong Pan Oiy (appetiser), Pla Kapong Samros (side dish), Phad Phed Goong Yod Mapran Oon, Tom Kha Hirabli (vegetable soup), Khao Nieu Mamuang (dessert), Lahd Nah Tohu (vegetable side dish) and many more. Now, doesn't that sound interesting?
