Cool ensemble

SHANTI NANISETTI

The `Vash Spring-Summer Collection 2002', launched by Shashank Devsare, is all about coolness, intricate detailing and hassle-free fabrics.

TRUE BLUE: Bright shades are also in.

SUMMER IS for cool cottons. It is also for wedding ceremonies, parties, chilling out by poolside and tours. So, how do you beat the heat, and do not look out of the place at parties, too? Shashank Devsare, well-known designer from Delhi, offers a solution for the Hyderabadi men with the launch of his `Spring-Summer Collection 2002'.

Combining the traditional look, with the comfort of cotton and a transparent feel, the garments - under the label `Vash' - let you breathe through the sultry summer days. "This year, Vash is all about coolness to take care of the severe Indian summer," says the designer who has `concentrated on the feel of the fabric' this year.

ALL ABOUT TRADITION: No-sweat sherwanis are a big hit.

Natural, cool and lightweight, yet done up with intricate designs, embroidery, zardozi, kashidakari and brocade work, the collection focuses on the particular needs of men in each city from where the label is retailed - Jodhpur, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Delhi and Hyderabad, apart from New York and London.

For the city, Shashank has retained the "Nawabi look not just for the body, but to enhance the soul as well." The present collection showcases vibrant summer colours - reds, off-whites and whites, apart from pastel shades in green, blue, pink and maroon. While the bright colours are given a transparent feel, the pastels project a dull-yet-comfortable look. Blacks are reigning this year too, especially in the `traditional wear' section, where they are detailed with golden embroidery, and Swarovski crystals to enhance the look.

The fabrics range from cottons to silk-mix, pure silks, Italian linens and German twin-layered fabrics. "Internationally too, transparent feel, bright colours contrasted with pastels, and beiges (golden shades) are in. While the cotton feel is rampant in every fabric, silk just shields it," he says.

"We keep in mind the climate, city and occasions like weddings before working on a new collection. So, this year, I have focussed on lightweight, no-sweat sherwanis with fine detailing," he adds.

PASTEL POWER: The true summer colours embellished with Swarovski crystals.

Now, you can check out the new collection from Vash at `Vaibhav Shashank' showroom in M.P.M. Mall, Abids. For details contact Arvind on 6786789 - Extn: 217.
