The new buffet scheme at hotel Green Park offers an exciting package of food and fun.

Lure them into a dutch treat at hotel Green Park, help yourselves with a sumptuous buffet lunch, let your friend pay his/her share of Rs. 249 and you pay Re.1 as your generous contribution. Think it is impossible? Check out the novel buffet scheme - called Tycoon -- at the hotel, and you'll hunt for a new friend everyday.
For guests who enter the hotel's restaurant, Once Upon a Time, between 12.30 pm and 1pm, an appetising offer is on cards. While one guest pays Rs. 249 for the buffet lunch, the other guest, by paying just one rupee is entitled to as much gastronomic fun and food. Arrival, minutes after the scheduled time however, will not make you eligible for this special offer. You pay in full, ie. Rs. 240 per person - a normal buffet price at the hotel.
Now, don't we deserve a treat for this yummy idea?
Abbasuddin Ahmed, Executive Chef, Green Park leads the way into `Once Upon a Time' which is packed to the brim. There are people and more people everywhere and Ahmed informs that many had to be turned away due to lack of space inside. First things first. The sight of the `Welcome drinks' quenches half your thirst. Choosing between fresh fruit juice, assorted soft drinks, lassi and badam drink is itself cooling enough. The chef's creations like Deccan Sunrise, Shirley Temple, Amm ka Panna and Upper Crust are a few mocktails, which are stunning to look at, and chilling in taste.
Now for some food. But "no," says the chef, at least not yet, not till we check out the `starters'. What a way to start? With three different kinds of snacks in both veg and non-veg, one can easily get stuck at the starting stage. Chicken tikka pakoda, fish amritsari, shammi kebab, fish bullets, crumb fried winglets, mutton corn balls...the list is long... worth taking a break to check out the veg snacks now. Corny kebabs, aloo 65, sautéed spicy mushrooms, spinach cheese rolls, potato pakodas, mirchi bajji, macaroni fritters and many more for the vegans.
Moving to the main course, one is first treated to 12 varieties of salads like cabbage with tomato, fish pate, pickled vegetables, Chinese cucumber and the all time popular Russian salad.
The main dishes comprise the best of Indian and continental cuisine. It is the rice varieties that take the cake though. One can savour coconut rice, ginger rice, karvepak rice, lime rice, tomato rice, Kashmiri rice, paneer pulao and with noodles option as well.
Dals, sambaar, boiled vegetable curries, pappads, wafers are equally enticing.
Waiting to be gobbled.
Little bit of this and little bit of that later, you just take a little bit of break and come back for dessert. Fruit triffle or pista pastry? Pista mousse or black forest? Not to forget the chum-chum and ras malai. How about little bit of everything? Calories and fat can go jump in the lake while you make a go at the dessert.
With a satiated stomach, the brain takes in the soothing and melodious music gently playing in the background. The décor becomes more visible and royal interiors seem very apt what with you feeling like a king ... or rather a queen after that `king size' meal.
Well, the foodies fell for this `scheme' and remember this buffet for Re.1 is only for the early birds. So get set for the fun at `Once Upon a Time'.
