Painted weaves

Each piece is a fine example of vivid imagination and aesthetic use of colours. The works are by artist S.G. Vasudev but... they are not oils on canvas nor are they pencil on paper. Instead they are tapestries in silk, which will be on show at an exhibition in the city from February 27 to March 9, 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.

Vasudev is not new to connoisseurs of art. He has attempted to translate his artistic imagination using the new and unusual medium. He has been working on these tapestries for the past eight years together with master weaver, Subburayulu. The works truly represent the artist's vision and the craftsman's skills. It is not the first time that the artist has tried out a new medium. Earlier, he had worked extensively with copper relief, and has executed murals in different media.

The current series explores themes that he has been working on for several years such as "Vriksha" (Tree of Life), "He and She", "Humanscapes", "Earthscapes" and "Theatre of Life". The exhibition of tapestries on silk and paintings by S.G. Vasudev is jointly organised by Amethyst and Artworld at Sundara Mahal, 14, Padmavathi Road, Jeypore Colony, Gopalapuram.
