Nostalgic drapes

Think Hindi cinema of the 1960s or 1970s, and what instantly flashes across the mind are images of the sculpturesque heroines clad in sensuous saris. In a nostalgic spin to the last century, Shilpi presents a range of delicate Benares georgettes flaunted by yesteryear heroines.

The collection, though limited, is impressive, in that it comes in rich textures and surprising hues. While the fabric whispers subtlety, the colours are vivid. Resplendent reds, brilliant blues, glamorous greens... all in tune with contemporary tastes.

Meticulously detailed, the saris and dupattas come with silver or gold work, so reminiscent of the craftsmanship of our ethnic past. As the fabrics are soft and flowing, they are perfect for today's woman with expressive body language. There are powerloom and handloom one (with silk threads in between) and the motifs are drawn from the rich reservoir of Benaresi tradition.

Priced Rs. 2,000 upwards, the creations are light and wrinkle-free. If you are looking for some dressy, yet easy-to-wear saris that accentuate the figure, then the collection is for you. On at Shilpi, C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer Road, till stocks last.

Go ahead, get draped - in nostalgia that is.
