Plenty to mix and match
The ambience is just right to chill out, and the `feel young' factor is a highpoint at ChicKing, the latest to join the fast food bandwagon.
THE FAST food scene is hotting up in Chennai with yet another franchisee entering the fray, attracting the teenage crowd, and the catch-a-bite-in-a-hurry clients. The city has seen brisk business with several pizzas, hamburger and other delicatessen outlets mushrooming in the past five years.
ChicKing, a franchise of Banquet Foods International, U.K., which made its debut in India at Kochi, has now opened a spacious outlet in Rosy Towers, Nungambakkam High Road (Tel: 8236575).
What beckons attention when you enter ChicKing is the open children's play area with the thoughtful addition of high chairs for toddlers. Take Away/Home Delivery facility is also available.
The menu is flexible and allows for mix and match combinations that could serve as a snack or a meal according to your appetite. ChicKing offers medium sized burgers chicken (Rs. 39), fish fillet (Rs. 49), and prawn (Rs. 59). There is also a larger size at an additional charge of Rs. 10. For the vegetarians, there's a choice between vegetable burger (Rs. 39) and a plain salad burger (Rs. 29). ChicKing Golden Wrap (Rs. 35) is like the desi kati roll, but ends up as a poor substitute.
Other interesting items on the menu are crumb fried chicken, chicken nuggets, chicken strips (go for it), zinger prawns, potato wedges, French fries, coleslaw and vegetable rice (for lunch), which are available in three quantities small/medium/large.
The ChicKing Royal Family Special (Rs. 449) comes with 12 pieces of chicken crumb fried, six buns, a large helping of French fries, a medium coleslaw and a medium bottle of Cola ideal for group-dining.
There are smaller meals too for Rs. 349 and Rs. 219. All items have the spice/non-spice option. More than the taste of the food, it's the `feel young' factor that lures customers to visit such fast food joints. Girls and boys in uniform man the counters. The prompt service and mechanised system of food preparation make the place look orderly and hygienic.
Most young customers crowding the counters feel ChicKing is the place to be after a tired day at work or in-between meetings. This is the right place to chill out with friends. For the conservative, its novelty is irresistible.
