Pizza... desi style

A city within a city — that's how one can describe Anna Nagar. Not so long ago, it was a suburb in the wilderness. Today, it's a self-sufficient neighbourhood.

And the latest addition to this is the new branch of Pizza Hut at C-43, II Avenue, Anna Nagar West (6222111) and the third in the chain of Pizzeria, the popular speciality fast food restaurants. But unlike the ones at Nungambakkam and Adyar, the Anna Nagar outlet is geared more for a delivery and takeaway service. Of course one could drop by for an informal bite.

Then there is the hassle-free `Pizza pooch birthday party' offer which will take care of all the entertainment and food requirements for a party, including invitation cards, name tags, party hats, games, conducted by trained hosts, prizes and return gifts. All this, and `no cleaning up'.

Like the Chinese noodles, pizza is the latest craze in town. It appeals to both the young and the old and has successfully invaded the conservative bastion of the hitherto formidable `tiffin' items like dosais, idlis and vadais.

"We are witnessing a globalisation of food preferences," says Marker, general manager of Pizzeria in Chennai.

"While the West is enamoured by the Indian curries, Indians are getting hooked to pizzas, burgers and Chinese cuisine. But to suit the Indian taste buds, we have introduced a desi version of the pizzas".

A whole range of thoroughly Indianised pizzas have been introduced in the `fiery masala magic' range.

The latest hybrids are Veggie do pyaza, Paneer pataka, Sabz bahar, Killer Korma, Teekha tikka and Chicken toofani.

In the fast moving world, where preparing an elaborate meal is a luxury to be indulged only over weekends, the pizzas could serve as a multi-purpose meal — nourishing, filling and pleases the taste buds too.

And what's more? It comes piping hot to your doorstep.
