Opportunity Knocks!

AFTER THE unprecedented success of The Hindu Opportunities Fair in Chennai, we at the Opportunities have come in with a bumper thumper for those that couldn't make it to the city then. The Hindu Opportunities Fair 2005 at Coimbatore will kick off on the 26th of February 2005 and carry on till the next evening. With careful aforethought, we have selected the CODISSIA Trade Fair Grounds between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on both days.

This time, there is hope and joy for three categories of people, final year students, fresh graduates/post graduates and for young people with up to 5 years experience. This will give a chance for all qualified people to apply to the companies that are attending. One innovation is that registration will be separate for each of the participant segments. Candidates should register themselves at the entrance at the window that indicates their particular category. For instance, a final year student would need to register himself at the window that deals with final year candidates, and so on with the other two categories.

A part of the registration process is the need to submit one copy of their résumé at the time. As in Chennai the rush is likely to be phenomenal, and after that mega-success, we expect there to be tremendous response, we have a way out for those candidates who are not able to attend a scheduled interview or a test, can do so later by entering their registration numbers at the counter of the recruiting company in a specified register.

Based on this we at The Hindu Opportunities will provide soft copies of the résumés to the company, so that they can subject them to due process, and summon eligible candidates at a later date for individual tests and interviews. Each of the participating companies will conduct their own tests on skills and aptitudes of the candidates apart from conducting interviews.

As in Chennai, we at The Hindu Opportunities have scheduled the very popular and useful employability seminars from 4pm to 7pm on both days with two sessions running simultaneously in each of the two seminar Halls. The topics are:

  • How to choose your first employer & handling your first job

  • Résumé building and making effective presentations

  • Handling group discussions

  • Interview skills

At time of going to press, 23 IT and ITES companies have confirmed participation. More confirmations are expected closer to the date of the fair on the 26th of February 2005. Some of the leading companies that have confirmed their presence at the fair are:

Cognizant Technology Solutions (Event Sponsor)Premier Evolvics (Associate sponsor), Infosys, Patni Computers, ICICI Onesource, Scientific Publishing, RM Education Solutions, Vangaurd, Allsec Technologies, DSL Software, Wipro Spectramind, Nipuna, Alden Prepress, HSBC etc.

So if you are considering a job and want to do it in style, take the Opportunity and meet the companies with as many copies of your resumes at The Hindu Opportunities Fair 2005 at Coimbatore. They are coming to see you - are you ready for them?
