Fake currency racket busted in Gujarat, 8 arrested
Navsari (PTI): Police here claimed to have busted a major fake currency racket here and arrested eight persons in this connection beside seizing counterfeit notes with face value of nearly Rs 3.5 lakh.
As many as 689 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination and four of Rs 1,000 denomination were seized from them, police said.
Working on a tip off, police caught one Alam Asir Ansari with 25 forged notes of Rs 500 denomination in Chikli taluka of the district on Tuesday.
During interrogation Ansari gave the names of other members of the racket following which three persons were arrested from Shri Ganesh Society of Surat, police added.
The trio was identified as Rajesh Dashai Saha of Nepal, Kalamuddin Hazratmiya and Shah Mohmmad Islam. Police recovered 608 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination from them.
Further interrogation of the accused revealed that 4-5 people involved in the racket had escaped to Indore.
A police team was sent to Indore, from where it arrested four more persons -- Afzal Nizamuddin, Shamim Alam, Manjur Alam and Nilam Pandit on Wednesday. Fifty-six fake notes of Rs 500 denomination and four of Rs 1,000 denomination were recovered from them, they said.
All the arrested were sent to police remand till March 12 by the local court.
