School girl identifies killer domestic help in double murder

New Delhi (PTI): A school girl, whose grandmother and 12-year-old brother were allegedly killed by their domestic help last year in Vasant Kunj, on Thursday identified the culprit in a Delhi court.

"Yes, it was Mithilesh who had assaulted me after killing my younger brother Karan and grandmother Surjit Kaur," Mehar Legha, a class X student, told Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar while pointing towards the accused, who was standing in the dock.

The 16-year-old daughter of retired army officer Amanpreet Singh narrated the sequence of the incident which unfolded in their flat at Vasant Kunj on March 2 last year.

Mithilesh Kumar Singh, hailing from Sitamarhi district in Bihar, was hired as a domestic servant by Singh almost five years ago.

The prosecution alleged he committed the crime with the intention of robbing expensive articles including jewellery, he killed Singh's aunt and minor son as other members of the family had gone out.

However, Mehar came back early from her school and was offered food by the accused, who attacked her after she refused to eat and inquired about her brother and grandmother.

She managed to flee and raise an alarm as a result of which neighbours and private security guards caught the accused.

Concluding the recording of her testimony, the girl said the accused had led the investigators to his blood-stained clothes and other incriminating objects including the knife which were recovered as evidence.

The accused had concealed the dead bodies in a suitcase and a bag, respectively, she said.

Public prosecutor Vinod Kumar Sharma would now examine two neighbours of the victim family on Friday in the case.
