The Amritalingeswarar temple in Ayyur Agaram village near Villupuram, which is being renovated, is in need of funds to complete the task and conduct consecration.
This ancient temple once upon a time was patronised by royalty. It is said that a Siva devotee came across the ruins of the temple while he was crossing Ayyur Agaram. Only the granite foundation of the sanctum sanctorum was intact. A lingam was discovered too.
Jayendra Saraswati named it Amrita Lingeswarar and directed the devotees to reconstruct the temple and conduct kumbabhishekam. The villagers secured materials and money from philanthropists and social workers and began the task.
The estimate is Rs 7 lakhs. Consecration has been scheduled for August 27. Yagasala pujas will commence on August 22.
