Kumbabhishekam
The jeernodharana ashtabhandana maha kumbabhishekam for the deities at Sri Athulyakuchambika Samedha Sri Brahmapureeswarar temple, Sri Kothandaramar temple and the small shrines for the grama devatas at Pozhagudy village, Nannilam taluk, Thiruvarur district, will be performed on August 20.
The temple is hailed as the place that removed the curse on Lord Brahma. Legend has it that Lord Brahma who was cursed by Lord Siva to be born as a snake charmer, reached Pezhaipetti, took a dip in the village river and regained his original form with the grace of Lord Brahmapureeswarar, the presiding deity of this temple.
Hence the village was called ‘Pezhaipetti’ and later came to be called as Pozhagudy.
Contributions welcome
This centuries-old temple was in a dilapidated state. Renovation is now on with the efforts of the residents of the village and temple committee members, who welcome contributions.
