Tribute to Ghantasala

Remembering a veteran: Kalapradarshini

It was a unique celebration at Kalapradarshini on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, recently.

The centre for performing arts and cultural activities dedicated the evening to late singer Ghantasala Venkateswar.

His daughter-in-law, dancer Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala, paid a rich and soulful tribute to the legendary singer-composer — along with 75 students of Kalapradarshini she presented Ghantasala’s popular film songs, choreographed by her. His unforgettable numbers of the 1950s were well-sequenced.

And from pushpanjali to tillana every piece was danced to a Ghantasala song.

The finale by Sarath Chandra and his troupe from Hyderabad was again a presentation of Ghantasala’s music in dance form.

Singer S. Janaki, the chief guest of the evening, shared interesting anecdotes about the doyen.

R. Krishnaswamy, secretary, Narada Gana Sabha, released the souvenir.
