Done and dusted?
A new trend is emerging on the small screen. Whenever there is a new show on a channel, another channel buys the rights of its older version, apparently to take out the zing. When NDTV Imagine launched “Ramayan”, Star Utsav came up with Sagars’ original version. Now when Colors has started “Jai Shri Krishna”, Imagine has dug out “Krishna Leela”. Similarly to take the sting out of Colors’ Akshay Kumar-led “Khatron Ke Khiladi”, Sony has refreshed the previous version of “Fear Factor” where television celebrities participated.
Twist to win
Here is a reality show which promises to be without tension. Pogo is coming up with “Hole in the Wall”, based on a successful Japanese format. The show will have two teams of three people, all dressed in spandex with a hat each, face the wall to play the game. As the moving barrier speeds towards the waiting teams, the participants must quickly contort themselves to fit through the weird and whacky cut out shapes in the wall or be swept into the pool made below. The witty Cyrus Sahukar is the host of the show.
Those who thought watching reality shows will keep them away from saas-bahus will be in for a surprise. SaharaOne is coming up with a reality show where the popular saas and bahus of television will compete against each other in a dance show. The likes of Vibha Chibber, Ketaki Dave and Himani Shivpuri will be seen competing against Simone Singh and Shilpa Sakhlani. “The show is meant to give respite to the on-going melodrama between the ‘saas’ and ‘bahu’. This show will definitely show their relation in a much positive and real way to the public, says Siddharth Kumar Tiwary of Swastik Pictures, which has produced the show.
Back in news
Thanks to the confidence vote, politics is back in news. The likes of Salim Sherwani and Ajit Singh who hadn’t faced a camera for ages returned to focus. Suddenly all the channels dumped stories about UFOs, magic mirrors, ghostly encounters and reality shows. There was no need as the neck and neck content gave the channels all the suspense and the stories of betrayals and foul play one usually associates with reality shows. Aaj Tak went a step ahead and announced a prize money for someone who guessed the number of votes that UPA will manage. With wads of money shown in Parliament, in the coming days the focus is expected to remain on noteworthy issues!
