The Jeernodharana maha kumbabhishekam of Arulmigu Pushpakuchambikai Udanurai Arulmigu Singiswarar temple, Mappedu village, Tiruvallur District, is to be performed on July 14 between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. under the guidance of Sri Kamakshi Sundaresa Swamigal.
Legend has it that Nandi, also known as Singi, was so immersed in playing the mridangam that he missed Lord Siva’s Anandathandavam at Thiruvalangadu.
He worshipped the swayambu lingam at Meippedu (Mappedu) to once again witness the holy dance of Lord Siva.
The Lord, pleased with his devotion, fulfilled Singi’s request and hence came to be known as Singiswarar.
The kumbabhishekam for the rajagopuram was performed centuries ago by Aditya Karikala Chozhan.
The temple, with no proper maintenance was in a dilapidated state.
The renovation was taken up by Guhasri Swamigal Satsangam. Kumbabhishekam will be conducted for the shrines of deities Vinayakar, Subramanyar, Srinivasar, Ambikai, Sringeeswarar, Paaleeswarar and Chandikeswarar besides rajagopuram and dwajasthambam.
Special homams and abhishekams will be performed from July 11. Veda paarayanam, chanting of Thirumurai, discourse and cultural programmes will be held on all days.
