Consecration at Kuttalam

The kumbhabishekam of the 12th century Temple of Lord Soliswarar (Lord Siva) in Kuttalam, on the Kumbakonam-Mayiladuthurai route, will be performed on July 14.

Jayatha Pallavarayar, a local chieftain, who lived during the time of Kulothunga III built the temple, whose rajagopuram is 70 feet high.

When Sage Bharatha performed the Putra Kameshti Yagam praying for a child, Goddess Parvathi appeared before him as a baby. He named her Parimala Sugantha Nayaki and brought her up till the Lord himself came down to the Earth as promised earlier, had his betrothal at Chozheeswaram (Soliswaram) and married her at Tirumananjeri nearby. Parimala Sugantha Nayaki is worshipped in a separate shrine at the temple.

The temple at Soliswaram is also known as Agniswaram.

According to the sthala puranam the Lord of Fire worshipped the Divine couple here and was cleansed of all his sins. It was on the Lord’s advice that the temple was built.

Worshipping at the Soliswaram temple on Pradosham day is believed to be very significant.

The idol of the famous Pathaala Saneeswaran at the temple is seen greeting the sages and rishis who did penance there, with folded hands. Believed to be a Suyambu Murthy, it is said that it was Pathaala Saneeswaran who directed King Nala to go to Thirunallar and rid himself of the ill-effects of Saturn.

Funds needed

Devotees believe that the deities here cure them of skin related ailments and solve all their problems.

Funds are required for the kumbhabishekam.
