Music festival
Chennai Fine Arts (Ph: 2442 5445/94440 76899), has organised a special music fest, dedicated to mridangam maestro Pazhani M.Subramania Pillai, for three days from June 20 at Gokhale Sastri Institute, K.N.Shanmugasundaram Hall, 16, Karpagambal Nagar, Mylapore. On the inaugural day (June 20) a lecture on ‘Rakti in Nagaswaram,’ by B.M.Sundaram will be followed by a nagaswaram recital (6 p.m.) of Aachalpuram Chinnathambi Pillai. Veena recital by Padmavathy Ananthagopalan will be on June 21, 5.45 p.m. A lecture on ‘Mukhaveena,’ by B.M.Sundaram will be featured on June 22 (last day) at 5.30 p.m. followed by excerpts from Pazhani’s concerts.
Competition
Tambaram Music Club’s (Ph: 2239 2885/98413 85288), competitions for vocal and mridangam categories will be held on June 22, 10 a.m. with spot registration at Sita Devi Garodia School, East Tambaram. The evening programme at 6.30 p.m. will feature the vocal concert of Amirta Sankaranayanan.
Award
Paripoornothsavam, the 56th birthday celebrations of Guruji Viswanath, will be held on June 25, 5 p.m., at Kamarajar Arangam, Anna Salai, Teynampet. On the occasion, veteran composer M. S. Viswanathan will be honoured with the Sangeetha Saraswathi Award. For details call 98456 23812.
