Pleasing vocals

Bhargava displayed good vocal culture and imagination at a recent concert.

Bhargava (24) hails from a family of musicians and had the initial training from his grandfather Thadepalli Srikantha Sastry, a noted name of those times. Later, he was under the tutelage of Malladi Suribabu.

A post graduate in music, Bhargava is presently doing M.Phil on the compositions of Swathi Tirunal. Hyderabad Music Circle arranged his vocal concert last week at the mini theatre of Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. He was accompanied by young musicians Peri Thyagaraju on violin and Burra Sriram on Mridangam.

Bhargava displayed good vocal culture and imagination. He began with Abhogi Varnam Evari Bodhana that gave him time to set himself well and also his voice. Then he rendered the popular invocation Vatapi in Hamsadhwani with swaras. He took up a rare composition Gopalaka Pahimam of Swathi Tirunal in Revagupti. The rendition was interesting and the swarakalpana strengthened its appeal further. This was in Misrachapu Talam.

The first raga essay of the evening was Poorvi Kalyani which he detailed with a leisurely approach.

The choice was a Gjnanamosagarada in this raga and enriched it further with the presentation of nereval and swaram at the line Paramatmudu, Jeevatmudu. However the major attraction of his concert was the essaying of Bhairavi for Lalithasri Pravrutthe.

His intonation is sharp, clear and disciplined which was experienced in this raga delineation.

Young Thyagaraju on violin gave a matured support to the vocalist while mridangam player Burra Sriram displayed his skill in the Tani Avartanam. The final chunk of the concert was notable for a Ramadasu kirtana Ramajogi Mandu Gonare in Khamas.
