Tale with twists
OF THE UNDERWORLD: 'Mandhiran'
"Kadalikka Neeramillai" became a trendsetter in those decades. After acting in some 100 films, Ravichandran has now taken up the megaphone and shows flair too. His son Hamsavardhan is the hero of ``Mandhiran" and he has not disappointed his father or his fans. It is a film with a message, all about mafia. Director Ravichandran has blended the ingredients of a full-fledged entertainer with experience to make it successful at the box-office. The movie begins in a way rather different making the viewers sit up.
While the first half breezy, the second is slow. But there are enough twists to sustain audience interest. Mandhiran (Hamsavardhan) comes to the city in search of a job. He saves a young man from drowning in the sea. Mandiran and his friends accommodate him in their room.
The landlord, Delhi Ganesh, has a soft corner for Mandhiran. He and his wife want to get their daughter Abi married to Mandhiran.
Entertaining
Then a fight breaks out in the fast food joint in the neighbourhood and Mandhiran hits the rowdy, who caused the trouble, and he dies. The three friends and Abi seek the help of a local `dada' to protect him from the police. The `dada' uses Mandhiran, who is forced to take his place.
Hamsavardhan shows off his dancing and fighting abilities. In the first fight scene he uses his legs well. Sruthi as Abi has a good body language and just passes muster.
Ravichandran does a cameo as police commissioner. Karthick Raja's work is noteworthy and editing by M. N. Raja enhances the proceedings. And to add to it, there is a bold twist to the climax.
Dina's music, particularly the "Panjabu" song, has the audience humming. Kudos to Ravichandran for keeping the dialogue crisp. The story, screenplay and production are by Ravichandran.
