Umesh Kulkarni's `Girni' will be screened
Every society has its heroes and most of them happen to be young and already making a mark in world cinema. Upcoming filmmakers exploit the short film genre with a lot of passion, zeal and enthusiasm. Short Cuts in its sixth edition of the monthly mini-festival screenings brings a collection of award winning and critically acclaimed short films made by filmmakers - Umesh Kulkarni, Suhail Bukhari and Mohan Indraganti on Sunday, September 18, 6.30 p.m. at Prasad Lab's Preview Theatre. The screenings will be followed by an interactive session with the directors.
Kulkarni's Girni won this year's best film award for excellent visualisation and dramatisation along with awards for best director and cinematographer. Zarina directed by Bukhari and Piyush Pushpak is the story of a tawaif and her struggle to eke out a meagre livelihood. The film recreates the golden era of the mujhra.
In keeping with the tradition of promoting a filmmaker of promise from Hyderabad, Short Cuts is also arranging the world premiere of Chali by Indraganti, this year's national award winner for Grahanam. Chali is the story of a young software professional, Ravi who moves into a new apartment, which he finds cold at night. Along with a friend he discovers the chilling reason why.
