Special postal cover

The Department of Posts will be releasing a special cover to commemorate the 330th Jayanthi celebrations of Sri Narayana Tirtha Swamigal on July 16 at a function at Narada Gana Sabha. Vatsala Raghu, Principal Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, will release the special cover. Tirupunthuruthi Sri Narayana Tirtha Swamigal Trust has organised a two-day festival in collaboration with Narada Gana Sabha Trust and Saraswathi Vaggeyakara Trust on July 16 and 17.

For Hindustani music lovers

To commemorate the birthday of Sri Ganayogi Panchakshara Gawai and Pt. Puttaraj Gawai, Samyukta Gowda Saraswata Sabha, T. Nagar (Ph: 2826 3804) is conducting `Smt. And Sri. J. S. Prabhu Memorial Hindustani Classical Music Festival' from July 15-17, in association with Sri Guru Ganayodi Panchakshara Sangeet Yogashram Trust, Chennai. Eminent artistes from Pune, Dharwar and Bangalore will give concerts at SGS Sabha Hall, T. Nagar.

On AIR

All India Radio, Chennai has organised a vocal recital by Prema Rangarajan on July 20 at 5 p.m. in the Multi-Track Recording Studio. The recording of the concert will be broadcast in the National Programme of Music on August 6 between 9.30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Jugalbandi

Rasika Fine Arts (Ph: 2480 2930) is presenting a special programme of sitar-flute jugalbandi by B. Sivaramakrishna Rao and B. V. Balasai on July 16 at 6.45 p.m. at J. G. Hindu Vidyalaya auditorium, West Mambalam.

Competition for kids

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is conducting competitions for children in connection with Krishna Jayanthi celebrations, in Devotional Music competition (July 24), Fancy Dress and Puranic Quiz (August 14) and Drawing and Painting (August 7). Festival postponed

Balaganamrutham's annual `Mid-season Music Festival' will be dedicated to the youth in its tenth year and is postponed to a later date (Oct. 8-14). It will be called `Monsoon Music Marvel' and will focus on already popular and promising young talent in Carnatic music.
